Artist Statement:
My roles in this movie were editor and data wrangler. Since this movie was filmed at my home, I was the editor “on set” which I feel saved a lot of time in post. This was important as the movie had a three-week turnaround. This was also the first movie that contained visual effects. I feel that the collaboration with the colorist, sound artist, and VFX person went relatively smoothly, even though the first VFX artist was not up to par with the director’s vision. A second VFX person was brought on board to achieve the special effect needed. The challenges of this film were not only finding a qualified VFX person, but this movie involved a child actor who was on the autism spectrum. This was his first acting assignment, so additional time was needed. Also, the final edit was challenging because there were some beautiful photographic shots that I wanted to keep and incorporate into the movie, but they just didn’t seem to fit and made the story more confusing. This decision was difficult, but I learned it’s better not to force something just for the sake of having it in the film.
