Artist Statement:

My role was the lead editor of this film. This movie was an undergrad “directing the narrative” film. This film was my most challenging as an editor. A lot of the shots were done in “miniature” to achieve a special effect, which cost a lot of time during filming. Therefore, there wasn’t time to record the beginning or ending scenes. I just had a middle to work with. Also, there were hardly any cameras or sound reports to use in the post. I basically had to re-write the story in the post, which resulted in a lot of creative editing and the incorporation of elements that were not part of the original script. Even though this was supposed to be a serious film, the actor’s performance did not match the tone of the script, and the serious movie ended up being a comedy. The challenge of this film was turning all of the negatives into positives which resulted in a film that ended up being grad review worthy. Professor Newton even commented that this was one of his favorite salvaged edits.
